Pump Track

A number of local cyclists and parents are keen to find a site for a ‘pump track’ in Dunbar. This is essentially a dirt track with a series of bumps and banked corners which people cycle round. Some example photos taken from the internet are shown below.

Local children have previously built their own bikes tracks in Lochend Woods, but we feel that this is conflicting with the needs other users of the woods and we would prefer to have a designated space. A professionally built pump track of around 30m x 40m will cost around £20,000 and in April 2012, with the support of Dunbar Community Woodland Group and Sustaining Dunbar we submitted an application to Viridor Credits for funding for this. We are committed to raising 10% of the costs, or around £2000 from other local sources, and would be delighted by any contributions towards this. We are hoping to arrange some sponsored events in the summer to help.

We’re looking at two potential sites for the pump track:

If this project goes ahead, local children and young people would be involved in the design and installation of the pump track. Like a skate park the location would be unsupervised and users would be responsible for their own safely.
